Student Athlete Academic Support and Special Projects Intern

Texas Lutheran University invites applications for a full-time Student Athlete Academic Support and Special Projects Intern. This position will assist with academic support services for student athletes, as outlined below, and serve as a liaison to faculty regarding student athletes’ academic performance.  

This position is funded through a National Collegiate Athletic Association grant through May 2028. After the grant, the position may be continued or eliminated. Grant benefits also include professional development stipend and housing opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Athletic Support
    • Assist compliance officer with determining academic eligibility for student athletes. 
    • Track and communicate team GPA information to appropriate entities on campus 
    • Plan for and oversee events such as Student Athletic Week, Senior recognitions, and awards.  
    • Support student-athlete initiatives with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee 
  • Academic Coaching and Retention
    • Meet regularly with student athletes to help them work toward their academic goals 
    • Send weekly emails and make calls to student athletes flagged by the Early Alert system 
    • Assess the academic needs of student athletes in collaboration with coaches  
    • Facilitate student athletes’ in finding answers to their advising questions  
    • Monitor student athletes’ academic performance in all classes 
    • Maintain a current roster of all student athletes 
  • Academic Support
    • Plan and facilitate Learning Workshops for student athletes 
    • Plan and/or promote on campus social and cultural activities for student athletes 
  • Supervision
    • Hire, train, and supervise a student assistant 
    • Other duties as assigned 


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Preference given to applicants with knowledge of or experience in NCAA Div III athletics
