Budget/Financial Analyst

Texas Lutheran University is currently seeking to hire a full-time Budget/Financial Analyst. This position plays a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and financial decision-making to ensure the effective allocation of resources in alignment with the university's strategic goals. This position is responsible for complex budget analysis and reporting functions for the University and assists with financial planning, analysis, and strategic support. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting research and cost-benefits analysis; identifying efficiencies; creating weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual budget reports for internal and external distribution. This includes, but is not limited to assisting in the planning, development and monitoring of the university's operating and capital budgets while providing consultative budget services to departments.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and maintain reports that will provide timely financial reporting, budget forecasting and analysis on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for internal and external use
- Assist with planning and implementation of the annual operating budget including forecasting and reforecasting efforts.
- Research and analyze current results to prior results and budgeted amounts at the university level and at the department level.
- Assist with regular meetings with various departments for detailed review and analysis of revenues and expenditures for respective departments.
- Responsible for development and maintaining university performance metrics.
- Responsible for maintaining historical data.
- Responsible for tracking position budgeting and maintaining budgeted position roster
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of systems, policies, and processes and practices and recommend changes to improve the university’s performance.
- Assist departments with issues related to fund availability and budget compliance
- Promote policies and best practices for meeting university budget compliance objectives.
- Track and analyze various revenue streams-tuition, course fees, grants, partnership related programs, etc.
- Track and analyze various expenses-utilities, salaries and benefits, leases, partnership related expenses, etc.
- Assist staff members in developing analytical reports to monitor departmental budgets.
- Research and resolve inquiries from departmental leaders and various detailed budget and financial analysis projects as requested.
- Assist with budget amendment analysis and budget error resolution.
- Assist with the creation of the annual budget both at the university level and the departmental level based on projected revenues and expenditures as well as the needs across various departments.

Position Qualifications include:
- 1-5 years related accounting experience preferred; higher education experience helpful
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred

- Thorough understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting and Auditing Standards), particularly as they apply in higher education
- Considerable judgment is required to work independently and make decisions based on precedent and university policy
- Understand and support the mission and strategic plan of Texas Lutheran University
Physical Demands
Work requires normal concentration with the ability to tolerate many interruptions. May require long hours during periods of high activity.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors in a typical office setting. Requires ability to cope gracefully with stress.
Organizational Data
This is an exempt position which does not supervise other staff but may supervise student workers.
