TLU Scholarships

Students must be accepted at TLU in order to be considered for a scholarship and must enroll full-time in order to receive and renew the award. Grant and scholarship aid (federal, state and external) when combined with TLU awards may not exceed the cost of attendance for the year which you are applying. Academic, performance and participation awards in combination, where applicable, may not exceed the cost of full-time tuition for the year which you are applying for aid.

Students receiving Chapter 31 or Chapter 33 veteran's benefits that pay 100 percent of tuition are eligible for institutional grants after all veteran benefits have been applied towards the cost of attendance.

Freshman Academic Scholarships

A range of academic scholarships are awarded based on high school academic performance and SAT/ACT scores. Scholarships are renewable for up to an additional three years provided the student maintains a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at TLU. These scholarships are awarded based on full-time, undergraduate enrollment. See the Academic Scholarship chart below to determine for which scholarship you may qualify.

PACE Scholarship - $21,000 - $27,000

Presidential Scholarship - $15,000 to $20,000

Academic Excellence Scholarship - $11,500 to $14,500

Heritage Scholarship - $6,500 to $10,000

Da capo Scholarship in Music (music and music education majors only) - $6,500 - $27,000

Locus Aduro Scholarship in Dramatic Media (dramatic media majors only) - $6,500 - $27,000

* ACT: composite score. SAT: evidence based reading and writing & math only. GPA: academic core classes only only. Academic scholarship amounts are subject to receiving an offer of admission. Scholarship amounts listed are for students beginning courses in the 2017-2018 academic year. 

Transfer Academic Scholarships

Transfer scholarships are awarded based on cumulative GPA from all institutions attended.  Transfer academic scholarships are only available to students admitted as transfers and are based on full time undergraduate enrollment. Students with dual credit hours who are classified as freshmen will not be eligible for these scholarships.

Transfer Academic Distinction Scholarship - $15,000 per year

Transfer Academic Honor Scholarship - $14,000 per year

Transfer Scholar Scholarship - $13,000 per year

Transfer Achievement Scholarship - $12,000 per year

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship - $3,000 per year
  You must be a member of Phi Theta Kappa at a community college to receive this scholarship. Qualifying students will receive this award in addition to any TLU academic scholarship. Only students admitted to TLU as transfer students may be considered for this scholarship.

Renewal of transfer academic scholarships is based on continued full-time enrollment and the cumulative 2.0 GPA earned at TLU. All transfer scholarships are renewable for six semesters. 


Lutheran Advantage Scholarship

Incoming freshman and transfer students who denote their membership in the Lutheran church on their application for admission and who meet academic criteria for an academic scholarship listed above, are eligible for this scholarship in the amount of $1,000. This scholarship is renewable for up to four additional years provided the student maintains a cumulative 2.0 GPA at TLU. This renewal criteria will carry over to the student's academic scholarship as well and replace the standard renewal criteria of three additional years and maintaining a 2.5 GPA.

Performance Scholarships - Fine Arts

Scholarships are based on an audition and your intent to either major in music, music education, or dramatic media, or to participate in, a music or dramatic media performance group. Scholarship amounts vary and are determined by the appropriate fine arts department.  These scholarships may be combined with academic scholarships. Students who receive a performance award must participate in a music (band, choir, strings, solo vocal) or dramatic media ensemble/group.

Auditions are required and must be scheduled in advance. If interested in auditioning for a performance award, you should review audition criteria and complete the appropriate application found on the Music Scholarships and Dramatic Media Scholarships pages.

Jones Audition Scholarship (music, music education, or dramatic media majors ONLY) - $3,000 - $5,000

Performance Award (non-music, music education, or dramatic media majors) - up to $3,000

Participation Awards

Athletic Training - Up to $2,000 per year
Students interested in working toward meeting requirements for certification in athletic training may contact Prof. Brian Coulombe, director of athletic training, at 830-372-8133 or for information on how to apply for this scholarship. Students receiving this award must participate in all functions of the athletic training program. Learn more about TLU's Athletic Training program.

Community Impact Scholarship - Up to $1,000 per year (Returning Students Only)
Students demonstrating outstanding leadership through a variety of campus and community service activities may be invited to apply for this scholarship.  Learn more about the Community Impact Scholarship and apply on MyTLU (login required).

Publications Award - $500 to $3,500 per year
Students interested in serving as editor or a major officer of the student newspaper or other student publications may apply for this award.
