Texas Lutheran University will be observing Women’s History Month all through March—and the community is invited to join the celebration.
A series of fun and educational events will be on offer, beginning with a screening of the film, Sally!, which chronicles the story of former TLU professor and LGBTQ trailblazer Dr. Sally Gearhart. The film viewing, which is intended for mature audiences, will be followed by conversation about Sally’s life and legacy with one of the directors and several participants from the film. It takes place on March 4 at 7 p.m. in Wupperman Little Theatre in the Schuech Fine Arts Center and is sponsored by the Jessie S. and Jack Harold Upton Brown Cultural Enrichment Endowment Fund, the TLU Blumberg Memorial Library, and the university’s Department of History, Composition Program, and Women's and Gender Studies Program.
On March 18, there will be a Lunch and Learn Authors Panel celebrating local authors and discussing their experiences and inspirations as they've navigated their lives and their writing. This event will be held in Tschoepe Hall’s Dunne Conference Center at noon, and those who would like to have lunch should RSVP no later than March 13 using this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScBwuu9IQ5nDs9QaRXvd4WQZB3MqPM0sG6iUI0NXzmfRdvJtw/viewform?usp=publish-editor.
The monthlong observance will close out on March 30, when audiences are invited to celebrate voices of women across the musical spectrum with a Women’s History Month Recital entitled Her Vision, Her Voice. The recital features TLU faculty members performing works by composers such as Rebecca Clarke and Gina Gillie, and is set for 7 p.m. in Ayers Recital Hall, located in the Schuech Fine Arts Center.
All of these events are free and open to all.
