By Campus Pastor Wes Cain
I cannot help but smile as I write this, because yesterday I had the immense blessing of getting to lead worship alongside some of our absolutely amazing Campus Ministry leaders. Alongside TLU Church Relations, the campus ministry has started up a new program that we are calling our “TLU Takeover”, where we come to a local congregation and, well, take over worship for a Sunday. Yesterday was our first venture into this, and we had an absolute blast. Spirit of Joy, Seguin was a gracious host and allowed us the freedom and grace to bring our style of worship to their space.
Our student praise band led us in lifting up praises to God.
Our campus ministry leaders and workers invited the congregation to engage together in praying for one another and the world, in naming and claiming our faith, in hearing the Word of God proclaimed, and in sharing the gift of grace present at the communion table. We even managed to get Dr. Cottrell to serve alongside us, proving once again to the world how servant leadership is built into the DNA of this institution and is exemplified at every level of leadership as well.
I told the congregation in my sermon that I was absolutely certain that the students serving in worship were going to change the world—not sometime in the future, but right now. After seeing their hearts of service, their desire to see the name of God magnified and glorified, and their gifts at work among God’s people, I am even more certain of this truth.
These students are actively working to bring the Kingdom of God into our midst, and it is a pleasure to serve alongside them. If you are interested in having us come and do a TLU Takeover at your congregation, please reach out to me. I would love to dream with you about what we can accomplish together.
