TLU MAT Students Pass BOC Exam—On Their First Try!

The Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer sets the standards for athletic trainers all over the nation. It is the only accredited certification program for athletic trainers in the United States, and is responsible for instituting standards of practice, establishing exceptional credentials, and laying out continuing education requirements for certified trainers.

In the 2023-24 school year, less than 69 percent of those who took the AT exam passed—but this spring at TLU, 100 percent of the students in the Master of Athletics degree program passed—on their first try, no less.

“These students have been consistently challenged clinically and academically over the past two years, but they have risen to meet that challenge each time,” said Brian Coulombe, associate professor and director of athletic training at TLU.

Congratulations to Brandalyn Dee, Natalie Lopez, Will Riebel, Cassiddi Roark, Angelica Romano, and Hannah Weinmann.

The students undertook the national certification exam in the midst of their final immersive semester at TLU—a time during which they were also engaged in full-time patient care at their assigned clinical sites. “It is a testament to their hard work and dedication,” said Coulombe.
