Texas Lutheran University is pleased to announce that Betsy Clardy, CFRE, has joined the institution as vice president of Development & Alumni Relations. She started full-time on Wednesday, March 1st.

Clardy joins TLU after 14 years of serving as the vice president & chief development officer at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). Under her leadership, Clardy led the university in the largest comprehensive campaign in history with a $450 million goal. During said campaign, UTMB established eleven regional leadership councils throughout Texas working with over 400 volunteers. Additionally, Clardy led the Innovation in Mind initiative - a $50 million campaign that supported the construction of the Health Education Center on the Galveston Campus as well as the creation of faculty endowments and student scholarships.

“We are very excited to welcome TLU alum and former Development & Alumni Relations Vice President Betsy Clardy back to lead our development and alumni relations efforts,” said Dr. Debbie Cottrell, TLU president. “Betsy is an experienced fundraiser with a highly successful track record of making a difference in every position she has held. I look forward to partnering with her in support of TLU and the numerous significant projects we have underway.”

Prior to her time at UTMB, Clardy served as the vice president of Development & Alumni Relations at TLU from 2001 to 2006, leading the largest-ever comprehensive campaign in TLU history at the time, raising more than $52 million. Additionally, Clardy served as a TLU regent from 2019 to 2023.

Her fundraising career started in 1994 at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as the director of development for principal gifts, a title she held for over seven years.

Clardy holds a B.A. in Political Science from Texas Lutheran University where she served as student senator and president of Beta Alpha Sigma.
