The title of the program is taken from a newly composed choral work gifted to the TLU Choir by Dr. Steven Sametz. The text, by Rabindranath Tagore, touches on the universal experience of life and death and how we are called as members of the human family to bring our light and our hearts to those in need during these challenging times. The program will also include a commissioned work by William Averitt based on the hymn tune Tryggare Kan Ingen Vara (known to many as Children of Our Heavenly Father) with a new text by Dr. Robert Bode. The piece is entitled This Broken World Embrace and the commissioning statement reads, “We grieve with the parents, families, and friends of the Uvalde and Sutherland Springs communities and pray for all people who have experienced acts of senseless violence.” The TLU Treble choir will be joined by director of vocal studies, Dr. Liliana Guerrero, in the performance of a newly commissioned arrangement of De Colores by Mari Esabel Valverde. The theme of peace and our call to serve every person in this broken world is woven throughout the program.
