Weather Alert: Extreme Cold Watch in Effect Saturday Through Monday
The National Weather Service is forecasting a major winter storm arriving late Friday, with sleet, ice, and dangerously cold wind chills as low as 2 degrees below zero possible for our region. We are under an extreme cold watch, which will remain in effect from Saturday at 6 p.m. through noon on Monday. Hard freezes are expected throughout the weekend.
TLU is closely monitoring this weather event, and preparations have been made to minimize risk in the event of ice. Should there be closures or cancellations, campus will be alerted via e2-campus, but even in the event of closures, Hein Dining Hall will remain open (weekend hours). If you have not already done so, sign up for e2-campus alerts here.
Please be vigilant if you are on campus over the weekend, act with caution, and help us remain aware of any issues developing.
If you live on campus, we kindly ask that you take the following precautions in your residential spaces starting Friday (1/23) evening and continuing throughout the freeze:
- Allow faucets to drip slowly into an empty sink.
- Open vanities and sink cabinet doors to prevent pipes from freezing.
- Set your thermostat to 65 degrees or above.
- Ensure all doors and windows are properly closed to keep cold air out of buildings and apartments.
- Promptly report any issues in residence halls or apartments to the RA on call. For other issues, call the bubble at (830) 372-8000.
- In the event of a medical or other life-threatening emergency, please call 911 immediately.
We encourage everyone to stay prepared for the cold temperatures. Please use your best judgment as to road conditions. Stay safe and warm, Bulldogs!
