Valuable Experience: Bulldog Investment Company Presents to Area Rotary Clubs

Members of the Bulldog Investment Company have visited the Rotary Clubs of both Seguin and Cuero this fall, to talk about what the organization does and all that it offers to TLU students. Founded back in 2009 by TLU alum Dave Sather ’89, BIC is an on-campus internship program that welcomes not only business students, but students of all majors, who want to learn how to interpret financial statements.

“We live in a world that is constantly under assault from people questioning whether a college degree is worthwhile. They also want to know how people will remain relevant in the world of Artificial Intelligence,” said Sather. “Given these challenges, presentations of this nature reinforce that a college degree is still highly valuable.”

Logan Arciba and Pablo Samanez, both grad students in business administration and accounting, and Enrique Alvarado, a senior majoring in business administration and business analytics, represented BIC, offering a presentation about the organization and fielding questions from their audiences.

TLU President Dr. Debbie Cottrell was on hand to introduce them at the Seguin club, where several TLU connections were on hand, including Regent Brad Webb. “Pablo, Enrique, and Logan knocked it out of the park today!” Cottrell said. “The presentation was great, and they handled lots and lots of questions from financially savvy Rotarians! Thanks so much for making me one very proud president!”

“As we experience more and more innovations from technology, it still requires humans to understand the data and be able to explain to others why and how the data or story matters,” said Sather. “Getting to deliver the process and results to groups of professionals like the Rotary Club, but before paychecks are on the line, is key to developing competency. It is equally important to be able to answer questions from a variety of viewpoints and industry professionals.”

The Cuero Rotary Club’s social media post proclaimed, “These students from the Texas Lutheran University are poised to reach far!”

Sather agrees. “Experiences like these are more valuable than reading 100 textbooks.”

Bulldog Investment Company is one of many programs at TLU that emphasize hands-on learning and real-world experiences to help students meet their goals and achieve their dreams.
