TLU Extends Application Deadline to March 1

Texas Lutheran University is extending its deadline to submit an application for fall 2021 admission from Feb. 1 to March 1. The action is in response to a national decline in the number of high school seniors who have started the college application process.

“High school seniors have experienced a significant disruption in their education due to COVID-19,” said Associate Vice President for Admissions Alecia McCain. “We recognize they are navigating a variety of learning environments and may have limited access to the resources and assistance typically available to help them with their college applications. We do not want a February 1 deadline to be an added concern for students.”

According to a Niche and Tudor Collegiate Strategies survey of 31,000 high school students in late fall, fewer than 50 percent of seniors surveyed had not yet started the college application process.

TLU is Test Optional

TLU’s Office of Admissions announced in April 2020 its decision to move to test optional after SAT and ACT exams were canceled due to the pandemic. “It continues to be a challenge for students to locate testing sites, and if they do, the number of open seats is limited,” said McCain. “We remain a test optional institution and will continue to review TLU applications for fall 2021 as test optional.” Currently, more than 60 percent of TLU’s first-year applicants have applied test optional for fall 2021. The TLU Admissions team reviews applications holistically, meaning, all aspects of the application, such as a student’s academic achievements, essay, and character traits, are reviewed to determine if TLU is a good fit for the student and if the student will be a good fit for TLU.
