Nursing students on TLU’s Houston campus are at it again. Members of the Student Nurses’ Association are known for finding ways to serve their community while gaining valuable experience, and this semester, one way they’ve been doing that is by making visits to Sterling Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Katy.

So far, the group of up-and-coming nurses has made two visits to seniors at the center, first participating in a Mardi Gras parade and celebration, and then sponsoring a bingo game with prizes and goodie bags for the residents. “The seniors had a blast and are excited for us to return a third time,” said SNA President Mellanee Johnson, who will graduate this year.
“SNA Houston strives to build long-lasting connections in the community,” Johnson added. For the students, this type of experience is just the beginning of a lifetime of bringing care and healing to those around them, and a reminder that sometimes a listening ear and quality time are the best medicine of all.
