Challenges and Blessings: Senior Spotlight on Emily Clymer

It’s a pretty common thing, when you’re in college, to have moments when you wonder if you’ve chosen the right path, if you’re headed in the right direction. There can be a pretty substantial gap between the classroom and the outside world, and there’s nothing better than the moment when you know that your calling is genuine and your chosen field fills you with a sense of purpose and passion.

Senior nursing student Emily Clymer received such an affirmation during her time in clinical rotations across different medical units. “Being able to gain hands-on experience and take on real responsibilities in a variety of settings showed me how much I’ve grown throughout nursing school,” she says. “It also helped me realize how passionate I am about nursing as a whole and how much I genuinely enjoy working across different specialties.”

The San Antonio native will graduate with her BS in nursing this spring, and after that, she plans to keep right on learning. “After graduation, I plan to take the NCLEX to begin working as a registered nurse with Methodist Healthcare in their postpartum unit while continuing training within the neonatal intensive care to gain experience with high-risk infants.”

But for Clymer, the measure of success in life is about more than her career. “In this next chapter, I hope to live a life that’s meaningful not just through what I do, but how I show up each day,” she says. “I hope to bring positivity and care into the world in ways that ripple beyond any single moment. Whether through small acts of kindness or being fully present in the lives I touch, I want to build a life and career that reflect my values, curiosity, and love for what I do. Embracing both challenges and blessings along the way.”
