Celebrating National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week

From the TLU Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion:

The White House has recognized September 12 to 16 as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) week. The purpose of HSIs week is to recognize the 559 HSIs throughout the nation for their work and critical role in educating and empowering Latinx students.

TLU is proud to join in this national event and acknowledge our history as an HSI. TLU earned HSI status in 2011, enrolling 25% Latinx students. This fall, the university achieved a milestone when Latinx student enrollment reached 42.8% and officially became the largest segment of the student population.

To commemorate HSIs Week, Dr. Lisa Alcorta, Senior Vice President for Operations and Programs with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), will speak in chapel on Friday, September 16, at 10 a.m. Joining Dr. Alcorta will be other executives from HACU including Sonia Martinez, Assistant Vice President for Advancement and Marketing, and Richard Montez, Executive Director for Member Services. The mission of HACU is to champion Hispanic success in higher education. HACU is the only national association representing existing and emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
