Grace and Peace to you from our Lord, Jesus Christ!
I don’t know how the fall 2022 semester is treating you, but here at TLU, we are rocking and rolling! It is such a lovely gift to see this campus come alive—not just after a summer with everyone away, but also after two years of distancing, masking, and isolation! We are back in a big way, our students are gathering together for classes, events, and fellowship, and our TLU community is growing stronger by the day. This is a completely different campus than it was even just nine months ago when I started, and I am loving every moment of it.
My favorite story in Scripture is from Ezekiel 37. Here, the prophet is carried by the Spirit to a valley full of bones. This site—most likely a mass grave—is as desolate and dead as a place can get. Think of the elephant graveyard from The Lion King, minus even the hyenas and other carrion. Upon arriving, the prophet is told to speak to the bones of the new life to come, of how God will raise them up, knit them together, and breathe life back into them. And, as he does this, he watches as the dead are made alive again, as the breath of life enters into re-knit-together bodies and the people live, truly live.
Now, I do not at all think that Texas Lutheran University found itself transformed into a valley of dry bones, but I can tell you confidently that I am certain that the breath of God is moving mightily in this place, re-invigorating our campus and community and calling us again to new life!
So come, see for yourself what God is doing among these amazing students, faculty, and staff. Come be a part of the springing up of life and community here. And come breathe in God’s breath of life, as it moves in, around, and among God’s people.
