If you’re interested in working in the field of education—even if you don’t aspire to become a teacher—you are invited to an Education Career Fair at Texas Lutheran University on Wednesday, April 15. Numerous area school districts will be on hand with various types of jobs to fill, so students of all majors and jobseekers of all kinds are encouraged to attend.
“The TLU Education Job Fair, hosted on the TLU campus, is a way for individuals looking for a job or a career change to gain access to various school districts in the area—regardless of one’s skill set or level of experience,” said Dr. Donna Kubena, education chair and director of the university’s field experience and student teaching programs, as well as the alternative certification program. “There will be jobs available for all kinds of positions.”
Event-goers can also learn more about TLU’s education programs while at the fair. “If you have a bachelor's degree in a field other than teaching or are close to completing it and want to become a teacher, there will also be someone to visit with regarding the TLU Alternative Certification Program,” said Kubena. In addition, there will be information available for those who would like to learn more about pursuing a master’s degree in education at TLU.
Teachers are always in demand, but Kubena says districts are looking to fill many other types of positions—everything from accountants to receptionists, groundskeepers to instructional coaches, plumbers to speech language pathologists and many more.
Numerous districts will be present at the fair, including ATPE (Association of Texas Professional Educators), Great Hearts Academies, and ISDs including Comal, East Central, Gonzales, La Grange, La Vernia, Lockhart, Marion, Navarro, New Braunfels, Nixon-Smiley, Pleasanton, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, Seguin, and Waelder.
Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their resume to hand to potential employers. The career fair will take place on Wednesday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Tschoepe Hall's Dunne Conference Center (Room 115) on the TLU campus. Parking for Tschoepe Hall is located in the Beck Center lot off Prexy Street. This event is free and open to all.
