To follow COVID-19 guidelines, taxpayers will remain in their cars and a student volunteer from the Master of Accountancy program will be in the Beck Center parking lot to assist them. Students will prepare tax returns in LL05 in Beck Center, but the taxpayers will not enter the building.
Taxpayers should bring all tax forms, a photo ID, and their Social Security card.
The IRS's VITA program has operated for more than 50 years and offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals including:
- People who generally make $57,000 or less
- Persons with disabilities; and
- Limited English-speaking taxpayers
While the IRS manages the VITA program, VITA sites are managed by IRS partners and staffed by their volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with nonprofit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.
VITA services are not only free, they are also a reliable and trusted source for preparing tax returns. All VITA volunteers who prepare returns must take and pass tax law training that meets or exceeds IRS standards.
