Texas Lutheran University's Department of Nursing is pleased to present Dr. Linda Caputi's presentation, "Clinical Judgement & the Next Generation NCLEX," on Friday, February 15, from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium (510 Fleming St. Seguin, Texas 78130).

Aimed specifically at nursing deans, directors, faculty, clinical instructors, hospital unit managers, and clinical educators, this conference will include Continuing Nursing Education contact hours and is being funded in part by federal dollars under the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) through the Texas Workforce Commission and the Wagner-Peyser 7(b) Grant Program. Upon completion of this course, participants will be more equipped to plan teaching and learning strategies so their students can engage in clinical judgement to think like a nurse.

Content will include:
1) Exploring research about how well new graduates think;
2) Discussing current approach to teaching thinking;
3) Reviewing the Next Generation NCLEX and its focus on clinical judgment;
4) Analyzing a new approach to teaching clinical judgment;
5) Exploring changes needed in clinical instruction to encourage clinical judgment; &
6) Reviewing tool available to support students development of clinical reasoning in the clinical setting.

This 5.0 contact hours continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Texas Nurses Association – Approver, an accredited approver with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The grant requires TLU to report WIOA data for program participants.

The $25 registration fee covers lunch and snacks. Dr. Caputi's book, “Think Like a Nurse: A Handbook," is available for purchase from her website.

More About Dr. Linda Caputi, RN, MSN, EdD, CNE, ANEF

Dr. Caputi is the editor of the Innovation Center, a column in the National League for Nursing’s journal Nursing Education Perspectives. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and a fellow in the NLN’s Academy of Nursing Education, and has served on the NLN’s Board of Governors. Dr. Caputi is Professor Emeritus, College of DuPage, and most recently taught in an online Master’s in Nursing Education program. She has won six awards for teaching excellence from Sigma Theta Tau. The 2nd edition of her book Teaching Nursing: The Art and Science was selected as the winner of the 2010 Top Teaching Tools Award from the Journal of Nursing Education. She has recently co-authored the book Mastering Concept-based Teaching: A Guide for Nurse Educators and authored the student textbook Think Like a Nurse: A Handbook. She has also edited four books for the NLN over the last vie years. Dr. Caputi is President of Linda Caputi, Inc., a nursing education consulting company, and has worked with hundreds of nursing programs over the last 20 years on topics related to teaching students clinical judgment, revising curriculum, transforming clinical education, test item writing and test construction, using an evidence-based model for NCLEX® success, assisting with accreditation, and numerous other nursing education topics.
