There’s nothing like a starry night spent outside with good friends, good food, and great music! The Texas Lutheran University Mexican-American Students Association (MASA) and the Center for Mexican-American Studies (CMAS) will be hosting “Cumbia Under the Stars” at the TLU Alumni Plaza near the center of campus on Friday, April 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. “Cumbia” refers to music that features the distinctive rhythms of the Columbian dance style made famous, in part, by performers like Selena. The event will include a silent auction, dinner, live music by Santa Lucia, and a dance benefitting both MASA and Carla Medina, who is battling oral cancer. Medina, a single mother, is a Seguin native and a member of Mariachi Las Alteñas, said to be the finest all-female mariachi group in Texas. TLU students can attend free of charge and for all others, advance tickets are $10, or $15 at the door.
