SEGUIN, Texas – Playing in her final collegiate match on Susan Duke Court in Tostengard Activity Center, Texas Lutheran senior middle blocker Jamie Jahns produced the third-best, single-match attack percentage in school history.
Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins) recorded 16 kills in 23 attempts without an error as the Bulldogs rolled past Concordia Texas on Tuesday evening by a count of 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.
Jahns single-match hitting percentage of .696 trails only Jamie Lassiter’s .737 (vs. Texas-Tyler) in 2007 and Kristi Hull’s .727 (vs. Howard Payne) in 2002. Jahns tied Hull’s school record for most kills (16) without an attack error.
Tuesday’s win clinched at least a runner-up finish for the Bulldogs (19-7, 14-4 ASC) in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Concordia Texas dropped to 8-18 overall and to 6-11 in the ASC.
Senior setter Amanda Curry (Lago Vista/Lago Vista/Hardin-Simmons), also playing in her final home match at TLU, delivered 34 assists and a match-best 16 digs for the Bulldogs. Junior outside hitter Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) added 11 kills and five digs.
Jahns also led TLU in blocking, with two solos and a block assist. Brooke Basey (Buda/Hays) contributed two aces and 12 digs.
Concordia Texas received 10 kills and 11 digs from Kevyn Jackson and 16 assists and seven digs from Bianca Martinez. Haley Phillips dished out 15 assists, and Lauren Baker added 13 digs.
TLU still could share the ASC West Championship with Hardin-Simmons, but TLU needs Hardin-Simmons to drop its final two conference matches for that to happen. HSU has road matches with Sul Ross State (1-22, 0-16 ASC) and Schreiner (16-11, 10-6 ASC) remaining on its schedule.
If TLU and HSU finish in a tie, HSU still will hold the tiebreaker (for tournament seeding purposes) over TLU by virtue of HSU’s 2-0 record against McMurry. TLU went 1-1 against McMurry, the highest placing team in the ASC West that holds a win against TLU but not against HSU.
TLU will enter the conference tournament as the ASC West No. 2 seed and will play the ASC East No. 3 seed, which has yet to be determined. Mississippi College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the University of Texas at Tyler are in contention for that third and final spot.
The conference tournament will be held in Richardson, Texas on Nov. 6-7. The University of Texas at Dallas, undefeated at 20-0 (15-0 ASC) and ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division III, is the tournament host.
Texas-Dallas and HSU will have byes into the ASC semifinal round. Texas-Dallas and TLU could meet in the ASC semifinal on the evening of Nov. 6. TLU would need a win in the afternoon quarterfinal for a shot at the Comets.
TLU won the 2007 ASC Championship at the Texas-Dallas Activity Center with victories over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas-Dallas and Hardin-Simmons. The Bulldogs entered that tournament as the No. 2 seed out of the ASC West.
