Griffin, Boomhower lead TLU to 2-1 victory

SEGUIN, Texas – Cami Griffin and Kaysie Boomhower each drove home second-half goals to lift the Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team to a 2-1 conference win Friday over Louisiana College.

At TLU’s Gustafson Field, Griffin (Round Rock, Texas/Tuscarora, Md./Towson State) put home a Kristin Meloni (San Antonio/Madison) corner kick in the 46th minute.

Boomhower scored her team-best sixth goal of the season with a shot in the 56th minute. Rachel Schafer (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) provided the assist.

LC’s Cassie DeCoste scored in the 79th minute for the Wildcats. Marionne Coronel recorded the assist.

TLU moved to 5-5-3 overall and to 3-3-3 in the American Southwest Conference.

LC dropped to 1-16 overall and to 1-9 in the ASC.

TLU had 30 total shots and 16 shots on goal. LC keeper Emily Breaux made 14 saves.

LC managed just three total shots and two shots on goal.

The Bulldogs conclude the 2009 home schedule with a 1 p.m. contest Saturday against Mississippi College.
