The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team lost a 3-0 first-half lead to the University of the Ozarks but still managed a 3-3 tie after two overtimes with the Eagles on Thursday.
In Clarksville, Ark., the Bulldogs raced to the 3-0 advantage in the first 37 minutes of action. The Bulldogs received two first-half goals from Pedro Martinez and another from Morgan Parker.
Martinez scored in the eight and 36th minutes, and Parked netted a shot in the 15th minute. Gumaro Sanchez assisted on the first Martinez goal, and Parker assisted on the second. Josue Cruz was credited with the assist on the Parker goal.
Ozarks scrambled back into the match with goals from Dylan Evans, Tanner Holman and Philip Johnson. Evans made it 3-1 TLU with a goal in the 67th minute, and Holman brought the Eagles within a goal with a shot in the 79th minute.
Johnson tied the match in the 85th minute with an assist from Shaun Renfro. Travis Murnan and Evan were given assists on the first two Ozarks goals.
After going the first nine matches of 2009 without a win, the Bulldogs have played three consecutive matches without a loss. TLU’s overall record now stands at 2-8-2 with a 2-4-2 mark in the American Southwest Conference.
Ozarks moved its overall mark to 8-4-1 and to 4-3-1 in the ASC.
TLU now travels to Richardson, Texas for Saturday’s 3 p.m. match with the University of Texas at Dallas.
