Phlebotomy technician program offered at CPD

SEGUIN – Do you know what a phlebotomist is? The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team whose main function is to obtain patients’ blood specimens by venipuncture and micro-collection. The Center for Professional Development (CPD) at Texas Lutheran University is offering a 90-hour phlebotomy technician program in response to the growing demand for health care staff and professionals.
The field of phlebotomy has greatly expanded in the past several years, and the role of this integral member of the health care team has recently been brought into much sharper focus.
CPD, in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, Inc., is offering classes beginning Nov. 10 to prepare students for entry level positions in this fast growing profession.
In the program, students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology; blood collection procedures; specimen hands-on practice; and clinical training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. The program includes lab exercises, live blood draws, work with a training arm, and other exercises intended to prepare students to function as an entry level phlebotomy technician.
Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6-9:30 p.m., and three Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Nov.10- Feb. 4 (with a two-week holiday break). The cost of $1599.00 includes the tuition, books, and all materials. You must document that you have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) to enroll.
