SEGUIN – Registration is now underway for the Pharmacy Technician Program at Texas Lutheran University’s Center for Professional Development.  Classes will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings (6-9:30 p.m.) from Feb. 4 through March 24.

The 50-hour Pharmacy Technician Program prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) exam. Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of registered pharmacists in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other health care settings.

Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, billing, and reimbursement.

The $999 fee includes texts and materials. This program has been approved for payment by the Texas Workforce Commission for eligible TWC clients. Students may apply for Sallie Mae loans through TLU’s partner, Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. (CCI).

The Pharmacy Technician Program is one of three health care professional training programs offered by TLU in partnership with CCI. The others are Dental Assisting and Phlebotomy Technician.

“The demand for health care staff and professionals is growing and has created job opportunities for individuals trained in leading health care fields.  These exciting programs will prepare adults for jobs as pharmacy technicians, dental assistants, and phlebotomists” said Dr. Rosemary Dawson, director of the Texas Lutheran University Center for Professional Development.
