New Dental Assistant program offered at TLU

SEGUIN – Texas Lutheran University’s Center for Professional Development is offering a new dental assisting program to prepare students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions. The 10-week, 100-hour program will prepare adults for jobs as dental assistants.
The program includes the anatomy, terminology, legal and ethical issues as well as the policy and guidelines necessary to understand the scope and the practical aspects of dental assisting. Students will learn about instrument identification, equipment maintenance, tooth structure, oral cavity anatomy, dental anesthesia, sterilization, tooth charting, restorations, bridge implants, bitewing, panograph, and periapical x-ray, and the mixing of dental cements. They will learn how to assist the dentist while providing quality dental care within the community.
Additionally, this program includes a CPR certification course and prepares students to take the State of Texas Registered Dental Assistant (RDT) Exam. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-9:30 p.m., and four Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 9-Dec. 18. The $1,799 fee includes texts and materials.
The training is in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. (CCI). TLU is offering the course in response to the growing demand for health care staff and professionals.
