Spring Choir Tour 2016
April 7 2016 - April 12 2016 7:30pm - 9:00pm
“Where Dreams Fly”
Under the direction of Dr. Douglas R. Boyer, director of the TLU School of Music and Choral Activities, the TLU Choir, Women's Choir and Kantorei Chamber Choir will perform in venues across Texas. The TLU Choirs will present a varied program featuring premiering works, world music, and both sacred and secular pieces on their spring 2016 tour.
This year’s program is titled “Where Dreams Fly” after the premiering six-movement work composed by William Averitt, inspired by the works of Marc Chagall and poetry by Robert Bode. The title is a reflection of the symbolism of flight and the dream-like quality in Chagall’s work, while the entire piece is an homage to his breadth of both style and medium. Each movement is inspired by a separate piece of art:
- Invocation: A Wheatfield on a Summer’s Afternoon
- The Poets’ Choice:: The Poet
- The Manger Haikus: The Holy Family
- Love Song: The Lovers in the Lilacs
- Night: Scherzo: La baou de saint Jeannet
- Inspiration: Cow with Parasol
In addition, a newly arranged “mash-up” work by Deb Mayes will also premiere. This arrangement, licensed by Hal Leonard & Alfred Music Publishing Co., is an inventive combination of popular music titles featuring "Cup Song;" "Gone, Gone, Gone;" and "Best Day of My Life."
All performances are free and open to the public. No tickets required.
