Dead Man’s Cell Phone

October 4 2018 - October 6 2018 7:30pm - 9:30pm   |   Location: Studio Theatre, Weston Center for the Performing Arts

by Sarah Ruhl

A TheatreXpress Student Production

Two strangers sit in a quiet café. When a cellphone begins to ring incessantly, their eternities become intertwined forever. So begins "Dead Man’s Cell Phone," a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl. A work about how we memorialize the dead – including complete strangers – "Dead Man’s Cell Phone" explores morality, redemption, and the need to connect in the isolation of a tech-centric world.

"The beguiling new comedy [...] blends the mundane and the metaphysical, the blunt and the obscure, the patently bizarre and the bizarrely moving [...] [Ruhl] writes surrealist fantasies that happen to be populated by eccentrically real people, comedies in which the surface illogic of dreams is made meaningful – made truthful – by the deeper logic of human feeling." - The New York Times
