RICHARDSON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran freshman forward Alan Garza (Seguin/Seguin) was named the American Southwest Conference Offensive Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on an American Southwest Conference All-Conference Third Team, following a vote of the league's 14 head coaches.
Garza was joined on the ASC All-Conference Third Team by senior midfielder Marcus Pais.
Senior defender Taylor Williams (Austin/McCallum), junior midfielder Aldo Garza (Seguin/Seguin) and sophomore goalkeeper Chris Gerhardt (New Braunfels/New Braunfels) were selected to the ASC Honorable Mention squad.
Alan Garza led the Bulldogs with 14 goals scored. He also had three assists and a team-best 31 points. Garza also had three game-winning goals and two xhat tricksx (matches with three goals scored).
Pais finished second on the team in goals, with six, and was the team leader in assists, with eight. Pais became TLUxs all-time leader in assists, with a career total of 25. In his final match as a Bulldog, a 3-2 overtime win over Louisiana College, Pais registered two assists and won the match with a penalty kick in the first overtime.
Williams started and played in 18 matches at defender for the Bulldogs. He scored one goal. Aldo Garza, the older brother of Alan, directed the Bulldogsx attack from the midfield. He also had a goal scored. Gerhardt started all 19 matches for the Bulldogs and had a goals-against average of 2.65. He registered three shutouts and made 111 saves.
TLU, under first-year head coach Eddie Salazar, posted an overall record of 7-11-1 and a 5-8 mark in the American Southwest Conference.
