RSVP Volunteer Coordinator

Texas Lutheran University is currently seeking to hire a part-time Volunteer Coordinator for RSVP.  This position is responsible for coordinating RSVP Volunteers.

Responsibilities:          

General

  • Coordinate the RSVP America Reads Program in all targeted schools. This includes obtaining criminal background checks and service time documentation, and providing orientation, training and recognition for the reading tutors. Work with the schools to track reading progress of the children tutored. Traveling is required over multiple counties.
  • Assist RSVP Director with RSVP sponsored fund-raising tours.
  • Identify unmet needs of communities and through collaborative efforts and volunteer participation create and implement direct service projects that address unmet needs especially food security, disaster preparedness or relief, veterans’ services, and health education.
  • Maintain and enhance current direct service projects such as Senior Medicare Patrol.
  • Collect and organize data to effectively measure the impacts and outcomes of direct service projects. Create and implement “impact statements” and “outcome measures” to evaluate progress of direct service projects.
  • Educate non-profit and governmental agencies, residents, and state and local officials regarding the services of RSVP.
  • Present the RSVP and SMP Video as requested by groups with the help of trained SMP Volunteers.
  • Build strong networking relationships with community non-profit and governmental agencies, groups and clubs, and media resources.
  • Assist the RSVP Director with one time service projects as needed.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan based on RSVP grant objectives.
  • Attend community events such as health/information fairs, open house, mixers and networking/collaboration meetings.
  • Provide special project/individual placement assistance for current and newly recruited volunteers. Maintain on-going communication with volunteer stations and with volunteers to ensure mutual satisfaction. When necessary, advocate on the volunteer’s behalf to ensure satisfying experience.
  • Work with the RSVP Records Manager to maintain required program documentation and volunteer data files.
  • Effective follow up with volunteers and stations that are not showing activity.
  • Attend professional development workshops, conferences and trainings.
  • Participate in on-going skill enhancement and professional growth activities.
  • Attend staff meetings, advisory council meetings and hearings of funders.
  • Provide assistance to the RSVP Director as needed.

Qualifications:

Education                                 

Bachelor’s degree or two years’ experience in marketing, program administration, service delivery, or volunteer administration.

Experience                                 

One year minimum, two years preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities                       

Proficiency in MS Word and internet navigation. Functional understanding of non-profit organizations and service delivery/funding correlation. Positive vision and action oriented. Desired characteristics are positive outlook, vision, comfort in leadership role, skilled in motivating people, enjoy networking/relationship building and goal/task oriented.
