Community Partnership: Houston Nursing Students Lend a Hand at Hacemos 5k

Members of the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) at Texas Lutheran University’s Houston campus recently partnered with the Hacemos 5k for a day of service and community engagement.

The non-profit Hacemos Scholarship Foundation has a mission to foster an environment where people help each other succeed professionally, personally, and within their communities. The goal of the 5K was to raise money for scholarships for first-time university students—a mission that deeply resonates with SNA’s own values of mentorship, education, and community service.

“At TLU, we support First-Generation students, as reflected in our community service at this event to support scholarships for first-time students,” said Dr. Denise McNulty, Assistant Director of Nursing on TLU’s Houston campus. “It is an honor to work with this group of students and witness their altruistic natures.”

At the event, TLU SNA members assisted with check-in, distributed water and snacks, and helped hand out medals to participants.

“This partnership exemplifies how nursing students can make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom,” said ABSN student Sean Tran. “By serving, leading, and uplifting their community.”
