SEGUIN – The Center for Professional Development at Texas Lutheran University is offering the opportunity to prepare for an entry level dental assisting position in one of the fastest growing health care fields.
The 10-week, 100-hour Dental Assisting program includes the anatomy, terminology, legal and ethical issues as well as the policy and guidelines necessary to understand the scope and the practical aspects of dental assisting.
Students will learn about instrument identification, equipment maintenance, tooth structure, oral cavity anatomy, dental anesthesia, sterilization, tooth charting, restorations, bridge implants, bitewing, panograph, and periapical x-ray, and the mixing of dental cements. They will learn how to assist the dentist while providing quality dental care within the community. At the end of the course, the students will take the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners Dental Assistants Examination.
Additionally, this program includes a CPR certification course and prepares students to take the State of Texas Registered Dental Assistant (RDT) Exam. Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-9:30 p.m., and three Saturdays from Sept. 22 until Dec. 9.
The $1,799 fee includes texts and materials (excluding the $40 State Board exam). The course will be taught by Dee Dee Burns who has more than 20 years in the field and is an experienced dental assistant instructor.
