Dr. John T. Masterson, Texas Lutheran University provost and executive vice president, will present the commencement address at Texas Lutheran’s spring commencement ceremonies, at 7 p.m., Saturday on the Chapel Lawn on campus. Masterson has announced plans to retire from TLU, effective May 31.

Texas Lutheran senior outfielder Casey Salinas was named Tuesday to the American Southwest Conference West Division First Team for the second time in her career after a division-only vote by each division’s softball coaches.

Texas Lutheran center fielder Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) was named Monday to the American Southwest Conference West Division Second Team for baseball following a division-only vote by each division’s head coaches. Harvey was joined on the ASC All-West Division squad by eight teammates selected to the ASC West Honorable Mention Team.

Texas Lutheran women’s track and field standout Jessica Raglon and men’s golfer A.J. Vesey were honored Sunday afternoon as the 2007-08 TLU Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively. Sportsmanship awards went to women's tennis player Alanna Gangemi and football player Dwight Bonner, and the Walter and Sue Christiansen Awards for academic performance went to Gangemi and football player Matt Alves.

Registration for summer swim lessons at Texas Lutheran University will begin Monday, May 12, 4-7 p.m. at the Mabee Pool on the TLU campus. Registration will continue in the TLU Fitness Center 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Texas Lutheran Athletics will honor the accomplishments of its student-athletes from the 2007-08 athletic year in a special TLU Athletics Awards Program at 3 p.m. Sunday in TLU’s Jackson Auditorium. The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
Student-athletes from all 14 TLU sports will be recognized for their accomplishments on the field of play and in the classroom. Student-athletes that have claimed American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference, All-Conference and All-West Division awards will be honored at the event.

Saturday at Texas Lutheran’s Morck Field, TLU and Schreiner each posted wins in the final regular season doubleheader for both teams. Schreiner took the first game 2-0, and TLU grabbed the finale 4-3 with a three-run rally in the seventh.

The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team could not pull off a third straight American Southwest Conference Championship and placed second Tuesday to Mary Hardin-Baylor at Hurricane Creek Country Club. TLU entered the final round a shot behind UMHB, but the Cru put together the round of the tournament – a 288 – over Tuesday’s final 18 holes and posted a 10-shot win over the Bulldogs. TLU's Ryan Kiel came within eight shots of defending his conference crown. The sophomore fired three consecutive rounds of 74 to tie for second.

The Texas Lutheran women’s golf team recorded a fifth-place team finish after Tuesday’s conclusion of the 2008 American Southwest Conference Women’s Golf Championships at Hurricane Creek Country Club. TLU was led individually by sophomore Angela Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin), who placed eighth overall with rounds of 80 and 86. TLU sophomore Carly Hansen was four shots behind Aufderhaar and placed 10th. Aufderhaar and Hansen each earned ASC Second Team All-Conference honors by virtue of their conference tournament finishes. Aufderhaar and Hansen were ASC First Team All-Conference selections in 2007.

The 16 students of the Music Theatre class at Texas Lutheran University will present a recital of the music of Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt at 7 p.m., April 25 and 28, and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 27. The performances, which are free and open to the public, will be in Wupperman Little Theatre in the Schuech Fine Arts Center on the TLU campus.

The Texas Lutheran University football coaching staff will host the TLU Legends Varsity Football Camp on June 27-29 for junior high and high school age football players entering grades seven through 12. The camp, led by TLU Head Coach Dennis Parker and his entire coaching staff, will focus on all skills for all football positions. The camp also will feature a kicking skills portion to be led by former Dallas Cowboys punter Toby Gowin.

Pamela Johnston, a novelist from Universal City and associate professor of English studies at Texas Lutheran University, has been awarded a residency at the Ragdale Foundation for the summer session of 2008. Ragdale is a nonprofit, internationally acclaimed artists' community located thirty miles north of Chicago in Lake Forest, Ill. This honor is bestowed upon Dr. Johnston in recognition of her outstanding work. She was also awarded a residency at Ragdale in 2004.

Texas Lutheran junior Dante Cage (Corpus Christi, TX / Carroll HS) led the Bulldogs back into contention for an ASC Championships berth with a 4-0 week that included No. 1 singles and doubles wins against West Division opponents Schreiner and Mary Hardin-Baylor. The team win over Schreiner was 5-4. Cage teamed with Nick Schenk in doubles.

The Texas Lutheran women’s track and field team posted impressive marks this past weekend at the Rice University Invitational and the University of Texas at Arlington Bobby Lane Invitational. Jessica Raglon broke her own school record in the pole vault and set another in the triple jump. In the pole vault, Raglon cleared 11 feet, 11.75 inches to finish fourth out of 21 competitors.

The Texas Lutheran women’s 4x400 meter relay team gave everything it had in defending its 2007 national title but fell just short in repeating the special feat, finishing third Saturday, March 15 at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
For their efforts, the four members of the relay team were named ASC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

Texas Lutheran rallied from a 10-3 deficit in game two Saturday and scored 12 runs in the eighth inning to complete a doubleheader sweep of Howard Payne with a 24-12 victory at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field.

Quiros, dean of Student Life and Learning at Texas Lutheran University, has been elected to the national leadership position of chair of the Small Colleges and Universities Commission of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). The Concordia Texas Tornados took full advantage of Texas Lutheran miscues and posted a doubleheader sweep Saturday with 13-4 and 11-8 wins over Texas Lutheran at Keller Faszholz Field. Concordia Texas improved to 12-7 overall and to 2-1 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Texas Lutheran dropped to 8-10 overall and to 1-2 in the ASC West.

The Texas Lutheran softball team lost to the University of Texas-Tyler and defeated the University of Texas-Dallas on Friday at the ASC First Pitch Softball Tournament in Farmer's Branch, Texas.
At Oran Good Park, TLU dropped a 19-3 decision in five innings to Texas-Tyler in the opening game and defeated Texas-Dallas 14-13 in the late evening contest.

The American Southwest Conference First Pitch Softball Tournament in Farmer's Branch, Texas will not start on time Friday due to weather in the North Texas area. Texas Lutheran's first game, against the University of Texas at Tyler, now is set for a 4 p.m. start on Friday. TLU's second game, against the University of Texas at Dallas, is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start, also on Friday.

At the Tucson Invitational Softball Tournament on Friday, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs dropped a pair of non-conference softball games. TLU lost 6-1 to Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and fell 1-0 to Capital (Ohio). Against Rose-Hulman, TLU senior center fielder Casey Salinas became TLU’s all-time steals leader with a stolen base in the first inning. Salinas swiped third base in the same inning and had two more stolen bases in the second game, against Capital.

The schedule for the Texas Lutheran baseball team's three-game series at Louisiana College has changed. The teams now will play a doubleheader on Friday, with the first game (a 7-inning contest) starting at 3:30 p.m. and the late game (scheduled for nine innings) starting no earlier than 6 p.m. Saturday's 9-inning game will start at noon. All games will be played at Louisiana College's Billy Allgood Field in Pineville, La.
TLU will have an
internet-only broadcast of Friday's first game, and Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM will broadcast the second game, starting at 6 p.m., on Friday. The KWED broadcast will also have a
