BIOGRAPHY

Soprano Zoe Chunghui Kim has been celebrated as a vocalist with special voice color and ample expressivity. Her broad performance career spans a variety of styles from Baroque to Contemporary music. She has been awarded First Prize of the MAP International Music Competition, Forte International Competition, and also given the Distinction Award of the Opera Division of the Metropolitan International Vocal Competition.

Her operatic credits include Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Diana (Orphée aux enfers), Governess (The Turn of the Screw), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito, cover), Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Marguerite (Faust), Mimi (La Boheme) and Musetta (La Boheme). She also performed critical roles in Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Die Zauberflöte, Die Fledermaus, Luisa Miller, Suor Angelica, and La Traviata. She has portrayed these roles and given recitals on renowned stages worldwide, performing at prestigious venues such as the Carnegie Hall, National Opera America Center, Mondavi Center, Musikverein, Alte Münze, and Seoul Arts Center.

As a multi-faced artist adept in performance strategies and academic endeavors, she has carried out an in-depth study on operas and their pedagogical approach to engage broader audiences and make classical music relevant in the 21st century. Throughout her graduate studies in New York and Texas, she actively engaged in numerous musical outreach initiatives.

Her commitment has extended to organizing regular performances at hospitals and nursing homes, conducting the Asian American Children's Choir in New Jersey, and leading a Korean community choir as the Music Director. In 2021, she earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin where studied under the tutelage of Darlene Wiley. Dr. Kim presented her dissertation on Puccini’s seldom performed opera Edgar and its heroine Fidelia. She holds her Master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Mignon Dunn and her Bachelor's degree from Ewha Woman's University.

She is currently based in Austin, Texas, and is the Interim Director and Assistant Professor of Voice Studies at Texas Lutheran University.
