Our Mission
The kinesiology department at Texas Lutheran University provides wellness and lifetime activity courses for students and faculty desiring to have a sound mind in a healthy body. The kinesiology major provides students with the scientific background and experience necessary for employment, leadership, and service in the areas of prevention, rehabilitation, coaching/teaching and performance enhancement. Kinesiology majors contribute to the critical societal need for physical, mental, and emotional health promotion in individuals and communities.
Our Alumni

“The small community and intimate atmosphere at Texas Lutheran University made a huge impact on my personal and professional growth today. The relationships and memories that were created will last a lifetime.”
Cedric Whitaker
2015 TLU graduate and Assistant Special Teams Coach for the Carolina Panthers
Hands-on Learning & Research Opportunities

TLU’s Kinesiology students use our motion analysis equipment in the Kieffer Kinesiology Lab for exercise testing, writing exercise prescriptions, and creating personal fitness regimens for faculty, staff, and students. Students also work with professors as lab assistants on major research projects and then present their research at regional conferences such as the Texas American College of Sports Medicine conference.
During the last semester of their senior year, Kinesiology students take a capstone course that is a culmination of their experience at TLU. The course (KINS 434) includes the application of knowledge learned in the discipline and a reflection on leadership and service. Students demonstrate knowledge and ability in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, and research presentation skills appropriate for a graduating senior.

TLU offers a Pickleball class at Seguin’s new Pickleball courts about one mile from campus. The complex features nine tournament ready courts with LED lighting. Courts are open from 8 am to 10 pm daily and available on a first come first served basis.

Kinesiology Club

TLU’s student-led Kinesiology Club takes advantage of the many outdoor recreational opportunities in the Texas Hill Country including climbing Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, hiking at Pedernales Falls State Park, or kayaking and paddle boarding the Guadalupe River in Seguin. Kinesiology Club students also give back to the community by hosting a field day service project for students with disabilities.
Each year students get the chance to attend and participate in the Texas-American College of Sports Medicine conference (TACSM). This gives them the opportunity to become a member of an active organization in sport science. Students attend academic talks by well-known professionals as well as network with professors and students from all over the state. This is a great opportunity to get connections in graduate schools, internships, and employment. Students also can present their senior capstone projects and serve on the student bowl competition.”
