TLU Remembers: Dr. Charles Oestreich, TLU President Emeritus

TLU will always be grateful for the life of Dr. Charles H. Oestreich, President Emeritus of Texas Lutheran University, who passed away on October 30 at age 93, after a full life as a teacher, scholar, and leader whose work helped shape TLU and whose legacy endures in the lives of those he influenced.

“In his 18 years as president of Texas Lutheran, Dr. Oestreich had a profound impact on our campus,” says TLU President Dr. Debbie Cottrell. “He led through a time of challenge and change with unwavering commitment, and we are all grateful for his life of service. I am particularly appreciative for his words of support and his presence at many TLU events after his retirement.”

Dr. Oestreich joined the TLU faculty and administration in 1969 as the academic dean and served as the university's president from 1976 to 1994.

A memorial service for Dr. Oestreich will be held on Tuesday, November 11 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels with the Reverend Paul Owens officiating. A reception will follow.
