This two-day event provides director-nominated Junior and Senior woodwinds, brass, and percussion for around Texas, with a musically rich and fulfilling experience. Students can create connections with our distinguished applied faculty, interact with nationally known guest composers and conductors, and perform in the clinic rehearsals and Concert!

Once you have been nominated by your band director, you will receive an email from our office with instructions on how to complete your registration for the event including and details regarding our required permission forms. We look forward to making music with you soon!
Frequently Asked Questions
On November 6-7, Texas Lutheran University will host the return of the Junior/Senior Honors Wind Ensemble. This event features several opportunities for students over the two days:
- Attend a sectional/masterclass with the TLU faculty
- Perform in the select Honors Wind Ensemble
- Work with featured TLU Composer-in-Residence, Carol Brittin Chambers
- Work with Conductors, Dr. Brett A. Richardson, TLU Director of Bands
Honors Wind Ensemble auditions are for chair placement only. Every student nominated before the ensembles have filled is accepted into the band. Students should prepare a one-minute technical piece and a one-minute lyrical piece. (Most students choose to use their All-Region Etudes). Because of time constraints, scales will not be asked in auditions. Percussionists should prepare a snare and mallet etude. (All-Region pieces are perfectly acceptable).
Attending
We recognize that bands may still be involved in playoff games and possibly a late-season marching contest. While most directors excuse their students from the game/contest to attend Junior/Senior Honors Wind Ensemble, students involved in performing at play-off games/marching contests that weekend are still strongly encouraged to participate. Students that must miss the Friday session due to a conflict with a football game are asked to submit an audition video via private YouTube link so they may be evaluated and placed on the appropriate part. Details on video submissions will be sent directly to students and directors involved in playoff games. They should arrive no later than 9 AM on Saturday, November 7, to check-in prior to the morning session.
If they are missing a portion of the Saturday event, please communicate with Dr. Richardson how they will participate in both. All students must participate in the concert portion or will not be allowed to attend the weekend.
There are several restaurants within a drive from campus. The university dining hall is also available. Meals are not included in the cost of the event. A map of the area with restaurant listings will be available at check in. Lunch will be provided on Saturday, November 7 in the music building lobby.
- Percussionists are responsible for bringing their own sticks and mallets.
- Brass players should bring all mutes.
- Woodwind players should have a selection of quality reeds.
Housing
No housing is provided. Must secure your own housing if you choose to stay the night. Most students commute back and forth each day. Please note: There is no campus residence hall housing available, and the university does not supervise students in the hotels.
About the Concert
The final concert is on Saturday evening, November 7 at 7 PM in Jackson Auditorium in the Weston Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, TX.
Please wear an all-white top, shirt, or polo; black belt; black pants; black hose/socks; closed toed black shoes.
The concert is free, so please invite your friends and family.
