During Women’s History Month in March, TLU celebrates the stories of women throughout history. We learn about women who blazed trails in the arts, education, business, and social movements, as well as those who contributed to their families and communities in less visible ways. We acknowledge the unfair structures that have often held women back. Historian Gerda Lerner was one of the organizers of the first Women’s History Week in 1980, which became Women’s History Month in 1987. International Women’s Day is recognized every year on March 8.

Professor Amelia Koford will facilitate a discussion of the ways people engage with Barbie as a cultural artifact. Attendees will use DIY crafting supplies to modify Barbie and Ken dolls to make them “weird.” Dolls will be provided to the first 12 RSVPs on Connect@TLU, or attendees can bring their own.
