The Office of Accommodation Services at TLU supports students by providing services in an atmosphere of respect and confidentiality. We are committed to providing reasonable and appropriate accommodations to eligible students. We value the diversity of our student body and the worth and dignity of each individual and collaborate with faculty and staff to increase the level of awareness of disabilities in the university community.
Accommodation Services works with students who self-identify as having a disability to verify reasonable and appropriate accommodations in the classroom, in campus housing, and elsewhere on campus. The Director of Accommodations works to ensure equity throughout campus for students with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Texas Lutheran University provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with physical, medical, visual, auditory, psychological, and/or learning disabilities. Requests for reasonable academic and housing accommodations can be made by contacting the Office of Accommodation Services. Unlike in the K-12 school system, it is the right and responsibility of the student to request accommodations and to provide professional documentation of the disability. This is a separate application process and usually begins after the student has been enrolled. Documentation requirements vary by disability and guidelines for documentation are available online via the student portal under the Student Affairs tab. A student who requests disability accommodations will be scheduled for a meeting with the Director of Accommodation Services to discuss eligibility.

Accommodations are not retroactive and cannot be provided until a letter of accommodation has been activated by the student. The student is responsible for initiating this procedure (letters of accommodation) each semester, including the summer session.
Students living on campus who have a disability-related need to modify their living environment must complete a Housing Accommodation Application (found on the student portal) and include supporting documentation. The Office of Accommodation Services will review and evaluate the request and work with Campus Living to determine the appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
All buildings on campus have access ramps and some have elevators. A limited number of parking spaces for students with physical disabilities are reserved throughout campus. Students with disabled parking placards must register their placard number on the portal along with their vehicle information. The placard must be clearly displayed with no visual obstruction to the registered number.
