TLU Celebrates 2025 Student of the Year: Emily “Moo” Holstein

Karina Garner

Emily Holstein—“Moo” to her friends—is feeling grateful. She was recently named the recipient of this year’s David and Anna (Teggeman) Stock TLU Student of the Year Award, and her initial response is gratitude. “It’s an incredible honor to receive this award!” says Holstein. “I’m so grateful for all of the amazing opportunities and experiences that I’ve had during my time at TLU.”

The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated excellence in leadership, scholarship, and service to the TLU community. Holstein is a political science major, with a concentration in pre-law. She is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society, the Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society, and the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, and has consistently held a spot on the President’s List—with a GPA of 4.0. She will be graduating summa cum laude this spring.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Holstein is also very involved at TLU and in the surrounding community. She has been a member of the Academic Council, Ethics Bowl Debate Team, Xi Tau Sorority, Campus Ministry, and the Student Government Association, serving as both a senator and as president.

“We had over seventy nominations this year, and there was a clear pattern for those specifically submitted for Moo: that she has demonstrated excellence in leadership, scholarship, and a heart for service to TLU and Seguin,” says TLU’s Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Gourjoine Wade. “We are truly pleased for her to receive this honor, and I am eternally grateful for the unwavering kindness of TLU alumnus David and Anna Stock, who generously support this annual award.”

Holstein thanks her parents for their support, her friends for making her time at TLU so memorable, campus administrators and the Board of Regents for providing her with so many incredible opportunities as a young student leader, Pastor Wes for always taking the time to help navigate life’s challenges, her amazing professors for pushing her to achieve more than she thought possible, and God for blessing her life and giving her the strength to remain steadfast in her principles.

After graduation, her dream is to attend Stanford Law School and to pursue a career as a civil attorney, specializing in class action law.
