At the heart of Texas Lutheran University’s mission is a commitment to shaping graduates who lead lives of purpose and service through education, community, and faith. At this year’s Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 10, we will honor two alumni whose extraordinary careers reflect the very best of that mission: Joshua Jaime MS’19, this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipient, and Dr. Stanton McHardy BS’90, recipient of our Distinguished Alumni Award.
The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is granted to an alum who has graduated within the past ten years, acknowledging their accomplishments and significant civic engagement. The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes an alum who has excelled in their career, as an individual, or through their commitment to community service. The chosen individual exemplifies what it means to be a TLU Bulldog and is a role model for their fellow alumni and current students.
Joshua Jaime, a rising star in military healthcare, earned his Master of Science in Athletic Training from TLU in 2019.

He is now a highly motivated and experienced Certified Athletic Trainer with the Special Warfare Operational Medicine Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
Joshua is deeply committed to providing exceptional care through a patient-centered approach, ensuring the best possible outcomes for each patient he sees through emergency care, diagnosis, treatment, and therapeutic rehabilitation. Joshua has received numerous significant awards and decorations during his time with the Special Warfare Operational Medicine Squadron, and his passion for his work and focus on patient well-being are truly commendable. Joshua’s commitment to service, excellence, and leadership makes him a deserving honoree for this award.
Dr. Stanton McHardy received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from TLU in 1990 and has made groundbreaking contributions to pharmaceutical research and innovation. Currently, the private, state, and federally funded collaborative research programs in Dr. McHardy’s CIDD labs at UTSA are focused on various small molecule drug discovery approaches to cancer, psychotherapeutic and neurodegenerative diseases, non-opioid pain, and infectious diseases.

His background includes research positions at Pfizer and Southwest Research Institute; his work has resulted in 59 peer-reviewed publications in synthesis, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery, and he is an inventor or co-inventor on 42 patents. In 2024, Dr. McHardy was inducted as a Fellow into the National Academy of Inventors.
Joshua Jaime and Dr. Stan McHardy embody the spirit of Texas Lutheran University, a spirit grounded in faith, leadership, and a lifelong calling to serve. We are honored to celebrate their achievements and proud to call them Bulldogs for life.
