Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the history,
culture, and contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. It’s an
opportunity to recognize the impact these communities have had on music, art, science,
and beyond.

While AAPI Month is primarily recognized in the United States, many countries around the
world hold similar celebrations that honor the history, traditions, and contributions of
Asian and Pacific Islander communities. In Canada, Asian Heritage Month is observed in
May with cultural exhibitions, performances, and educational programs that highlight the
impact of Asian Canadians. Australia embraces its multicultural identity with events like
the National Multicultural Festival and large-scale Lunar New Year celebrations, featuring
traditional music, dance, and food festivals that bring communities together. Across Asia,
cultural heritage is celebrated through festivals that blend tradition with contemporary
influences.

No matter where these celebrations take place, the goal remains the same—to honor
history, strengthen cultural identity, and foster connections between communities through
shared traditions and artistic expression.

“In celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, I want to share music by Asian composers whose
voices deserve to be heard more often. This program blends tradition with modernity,
showcasing both classical works and contemporary pieces that highlight the diversity of
today’s Asian musical voices. Music connects us, and I hope these performances invite you
to listen, reflect, and celebrate."
