For a second year in their partnership with former Kerrville-Tivy High School student Zackary Reyna, 19, to collect letters to Santa for Macy’s Believe Campaign, the TLU National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) presented 1,093 letters they gathered to support Make-A-Wish® Foundation.
For every letter received, Macy's matches $1, and that amount was doubled
during their annual "Believe Day" on Dec. 6, 2019. This year, Reyna was able to collect 174,417 letters raising a total of $348,834.
After being diagnosed with an inoperable brain aneurysm in 2007 and given only one year to live, Reyna was granted his wish of riding every ride at Disney World in 2010. Since then, he has been paying it forward and raising money for kids with critical illnesses.
Former NSLS President and alumna Katie Gatto ’19 first heard about Reyna's inspirational story from a family friend and led the 2018 efforts to help meet his goal of gathering more than 54,000 letters. Last year, Reyna received 104,069 letters and raised $209,158, bringing his total raised to more than half a million dollars.
