Teaching, Research & Advising

Teaching

  • In preparation for the fall, the Center for Teaching & Learning offered two sections of online and blended teaching training. This training helps prepare faculty for the multiple options of teaching offered this fall. This course will be offered again this fall.
  • Final exams will follow the course exam schedule established by the registrar.
  • Syllabi will clarify student expectations for synchronous and asynchronous online courses.
  • All courses follow best practices identified on the CTL web page. Guidance on multiple topics for faculty and students can be found on MyTLU.
  • Synchronous online courses will meet during times established for the class on the fall schedule.
  • Asynchronous online courses may not require students to meet in real time unless agreed to by the class.
  • Grading for the fall will follow the Grade, Grade Reports, & Grade Points policies in the 2020-2021 TLU Catalog.
  • Instructors are encouraged to reduce paper copies and move documents to their MyTLU course web page.
  • All course materials should be made available on the course’s MyTLU course web page.
  • All out-of-class experiences, service learning in the community, off-campus class speakers, field trips, etc. must follow the safety protocols established for face-to-face classes and by TLU Health Services such as the wearing of masks, daily attestation of health through #CampusClear, and six-feet social distancing.
  • Spaces with WIFI that maintain healthy social distancing will be available for studying for students commuting to campus.
  • If an instructor becomes sick and is no longer able to teach the course, TLU will follow the procedures identified in the Faculty Manual and Bylaws and in the Faculty Procedures.

Research with Students

Student research will follow social distancing policies. Work will occur online when possible or with face coverings and at a distance of six feet or with more extensive PPE where six-foot separation is not possible.

Student Engagement by Departments

Departments will continue their work to support strong curriculum and student engagement.

Advising

Instructors are encouraged to offer office hours and alternate ways of communicating with students as they may have additional questions given the multiple modalities of teaching. Faculty may offer:

  • Face-to-face advising at their own discretion but should follow the social distancing guidelines and wearing of face coverings.
  • Open office hours through zoom.
  • Guidance through email or texts using Ring Central.
  • Remember that all forms for registration (including add/drop) can be completed online through the Registrar’s page on MyTLU.
