Human Resources Coordinator

Texas Lutheran University is currently accepting applications for the position of Human Resources Coordinator.

Position Information

This position assists in the support provided to current and former TLU employees beginning with their candidacy for a position through their separation of employment. This position will provide both technical and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) data support to fulfill this function.

The Human Resources Coordinator’s duties involve working with the application process, data base management, including benefits for payroll accuracy, and claim submission/reporting for workers compensation, verification of employment, Family Medical Leave Act, and other HR related duties. This is a full-time position which will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.

Responsibilities include:


  • Assists applicants with the application process
  • Sends acknowledgements/responses to applicants as needed
  • Works with hiring managers to ensure receipt of applications
  • Processes new and separating employees: ensures that required paperwork & system data entry are completed, and that information is appropriately distributed to other departments
  • Coordinates new employee orientation
  • Arranges for advertising and posts job vacancies. Maintains applicant log for each position
  • Requests information from law enforcement officials and other references to determine applicants’ employment eligibility
  • Explains personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees and job applicants
  • Answers questions, creates and distributes documents, and provides service to employees, applicants & visitors to the campus.

HR Data:

  • Creates and maintains all physical and Jenzabar employee records; ensures confidentiality and security of said records
  • Maintains employee database (Jenzabar) and position numbers to ensure that information is accurate and current
  • Maintains and generates monthly Jenzabar/Excel Faculty/Employee report
  • Compiles and prepares reports, spreadsheets, and documents pertaining to personnel activities, including new hire evaluations, retirement plan eligibility, institutional research data submissions, etc.
  • Precise entry of personnel and position data, wages, benefits, etc. into employee database (Jenzabar) to ensure accurate paychecks are distributed, personnel records are maintained, etc.

HR Compliance:

  • Ensure accurate benefit enrollment data is received and reflected in the various insurance carriers’ systems via the employee benefits enrollment platform
  • Maintains required State & Federal employee posters
  • Updates HR information on the TLU portal
  • Processes verifications of employment
  • Processes Workers’ Compensation claims, coordinates with insurance carriers, and maintains required files. Performs internal claims management and ensure that salaries are adjusted, terminated, etc. as required in these systems.
  • Tracks employees on Family Medical Leave and other paid/unpaid leave, ensuring compliance with FMLA and other applicable regulations.
  • Assists with planning and organizing annual enrollments for applicable benefit plans.

Job Requirements:

  • Related bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience required, preferably in Human Resources with preference given to HRIS and Benefits administration. Additional experience may substitute for college degree requirement.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to perform duties simultaneously with accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal and employee relations skills
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to plan and arrange own work, including organizing, tracking, and prioritizing assignments and tasks
  • Must be focused, detail-oriented, and able to stay on task
  • Must have a sincere desire for service
  • Proficient computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Understand and support the mission and strategic plan of Texas Lutheran University
