Texas Lutheran University invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Soccer Coach.

The Head Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and has full responsibility for all functions related to the program, including but not limited to, recruitment, budget preparation, scheduling, and travel arrangements. The Head Coach is recognized as a master teacher who is responsible for the conduct of a highly regarded program, the maintenance of an exemplary student-athlete concept, and the personal development of student athletes. This is a full-time position with some evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evidence the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA and SCAC rules and regulations and the program’s code of ethics.
  • Recruit quality athletes capable of pursuing the baccalaureate degree in accordance with the rules and regulations of the governing bodies and in such a manner that reflects the best interests of the program and the university.
  • Participate in annual continuing education pertaining to NCAA and SCAC rules.
  • Design a competitive schedule that maximizes athlete development and performance.
  • Relate in a positive and effective manner with officials, opponents’ coaching staff, high school coaches, parents, the media, and the public.
  • Demonstrate sincere interest and provide strong leadership in the personal, athletic, and academic development of student-athletes.
  • Prepare and submit to the AD a cost-effective and administratively efficient budget.
  • Assist the AD in finalizing all arrangements for home contests, including court/field preparation and personnel.
  • Assume responsibility for ordering and caring for all equipment and uniforms.
  • Coordinate with the AD and the food service manager the dates, times, and any special meals that may be required for the team.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Campus Living any special housing arrangements that will be needed when the university is not in regular session.
  • Provide information relating to the accomplishments and endeavors of the team and individual team members to the Director of Sports Information & Sports Marketing.
  • Assist the AD and the Head Athletics Trainer with administering the athletics insurance program by:
    • Ensuring that each participant has physician clearance prior to any participation
    • Submitting a team roster and any changes that occur, for insurance purposes
    • Ensuring that all injured players receive proper medical care and rehabilitation
  • Assist the AD and the Administrative Assistant in preparing eligibility documentation by submitting an accurate and complete roster well in advance of the first playing date or scrimmage. The Registrar’s Office has requested at least three weeks advance notice to properly process eligibility certification.
  • Submit transportation requests at least two weeks in advance of departure date
  • Submit a roster of the traveling squad and trip particulars at least one week in advance to the Administrative Assistant for distribution to the faculty.
  • Recommend team members who qualify for a letter award.
  • Prepare and submit an annual report to the AD by May 15 of each year.
  • Be willing to serve as an official or committee member as may be requested by those organizations with which TLU is affiliated.
  • Assist in special events, tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect for the competencies of others, and appropriate conflict resolution behavior.
  • Monitor TLU’s athletic facility for purposes of safety and facility security.
  • Make hiring and firing decisions.
  • Provide supervision, development, and evaluation of staff.
  • Participate in formulation of budgets and ensure that department operates within approved budgetary parameters.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; a master’s degree is preferred
  • Four years of related experience with head coaching experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Some independent judgment is required to analyze facts to determine actions to be taken within the limits of standard practice
  • Ability to work toward general results, devising new methods, modifying or developing standard procedures to meet new conditions
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • A working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Requires a high level of emotional and physical stamina, a level of physical conditioning to be able to demonstrate essential skills, and endurance level sufficient to motivate team members for the duration of practice sessions/games
  • Demanding and fast-paced, stressful environment. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, often in hot, humid conditions.
