Co-Rec Dodgeball Rules

Mandatory Meeting:
Managers’ meeting will be Tuesday, October 9 at 8 p.m. in 129JC. You must have a representative attend the meeting or your team will not be eligible to play.

Team Schedules:
Schedules, scores and information pertaining to Intramural events can be checked on the Intramural Bulletin Boards, located in the Fitness Center and in the ASC.

NO ID NO PLAY
All players must present their student ID before every game in order to be eligible to participate.

Eligibility:
All currently enrolled students, faculty, staff and spouses are eligible to participate in Intramural Sports. A player may play for one team only. Players must have their name and signatures on the roster.

Playoffs:
To be eligible for playoffs: each player must play in two games with their team. Your team may have one forfeit and pay a $10.00 forfeit fee to be eligible for playoffs.

Protests:
A protest concerning eligibility of a player or rules interpretation can be made. However, teams cannot protest a judgment call by an official.

Players, Court, Equipment, Game

Players:
The game shall be played between 2 teams of 8 players each, at least two must be female. Teams must have a minimum of six players (2 females) to start or a forfeit will be called. Once a game starts late players may not come in until half time or the start of another game.

Team Captains:
Each team shall designate a captain to the referee.

Persons subject to the rules:
Team representatives, including players, substitutes, replaced players, coaches, fans, and other persons affiliated with the team are subject to the rules of the game and shall be governed by decisions of the officials assigned to the game.

Ejections/Suspensions:
  • The intramural supervisor on duty has the right to remove any player from a match for unsportsmanlike conduct. That player will be suspended for the remainder of the match and the following match.
  • A player that is ejected must meet with the Intramural Director before the next match and will not be allowed to play until doing so
  • All decisions made by the intramural supervisor on duty will be final

The Court

Inbounds/ Out of bounds:
The lines bounding the basketball court on all four sides are the out of bounds lines.
Team Areas: Players, coaches, and fans shall stay against the wall on the door side of the gym.
Equipment

The Ball:
The official balls shall be Gopher dodge balls of various sizes.

Shoes:
Players must wear non-marking tennis shoes. No sandals, boots,socks, or bare feet allowed.

Supports, Braces, Gloves, and Pads:
NO casts, splints will be allowed under any circumstances. No pads or braces will be allowed above the waist. Players who wear a knee brace with exposed metal or metal hinges are required to cover the exposed metal. Players may wear gloves that consist of a soft, pliable, non-abrasive material. Any player wearing illegal or dangerous equipment shall not be permitted to play. Jewelry is illegal equipment and may not be worn. All equipment shall be subject to the approval of the Intramural Staff and their decision is final.

Game

Game Time:
A legal game shall consist of two 10-minute running clock halves. Half time will be 3 minutes. If all players on a team are out before the time is up another game will start.

Overtime Procedure: (playoffs only)
In case of a tie, the official will bring all players and coaches to the center of the court to explain overtime procedure. Each team will select 5 players for a 5-minute game. The team with the most players left at the end of the game wins. This procedure will be repeated until there is a winner.

Time Outs:
Each team will be allowed one 1-minute time out per game. Each team will have one 1-minute time out per overtime period.

Substitutions:
Players may substitute at any time with official’s permission.

Ball in Play

To start the game:
  • Each team will line up on opposing baselines. At the whistle players run to pick up balls in the middle of the court.
  • Once you have a ball you have to return to your own baseline before you can hit anyone.
  • If a team has only one player left, he/she must continue play (no stalling). If 3 or fewer players are left in the game players may cross the half court line as far as the opponents’ 10-foot line.

Rules of play:
  • You can’t pass half court to hit anyone, unless there are 3 or fewer players left.
  • You can’t jump out of bounds to avoid being hit.

You are out if:
  • Someone catches your thrown ball except if it bounces off another person.
  • You get hit without catching the ball.
  • You hit someone in the head a second time.

Scoring:
Players left on court at the end of a game will determine scores. Each player left is worth a point. The team with the most players left on the court (or points) wins the game.
