New Student Orientation 2008
 August 16-17


Saturday, August 16

8 a.m.-Noon – Tschoepe Hall Foyer/Residence Halls
  • Centralized Check-In for all new students
  • Move-In for on-campus students

8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. – Alumni Student Center
  • Bookstore Open for textbook purchase

10 a.m.-1 p.m. – Alumni Student Center
  • TLU Marketplace
    Check out local vendors, learn about the Bulldog Buddy discount program, pick up coupons and a snack, and sign up for a checking account.

11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – Various Locations
  • Lunch
    • Hein Dining Hall: All-you-can-eat-$6 for incoming students / $7 for others
    • Lucky’s Kennel: Open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the ASC
    • For off-campus dining choices, check out the Bulldog Buddies list on page 24 of the New Student 101 booklet.

1:30-3:30 p.m. – Jackson Auditorium
  • Mandatory Opening New Student Orientation Session
    In this session, you will receive an overview of the week, meet your peer mentor and the rest of the Class of 2012!

3:30 p.m. – Jackson Auditorium Patio
  • Refreshment Break
    Meet up with your family in front of Jackson Auditorium for an ice cream sandwich before heading inside for Matriculation.

4-5 p.m. – Jackson Auditorium
  • Matriculation
    The purpose of this ceremony is to officially welcome the Class of 2012 into the TLU community. Families are encouraged to come. Excellent photo opportunity!

5 p.m. – Jackson Auditorium/Residence Halls
  • Family Good-Byes

4:30-6:30 p.m. – Hein Dining Hall
  • Dinner (Meal plans start)

6:15-7:30 p.m. – Jackson Auditorium
  • Leadership Team
    In this session you will meet the members of the Leadership Team and find out who the leaders on the TLU campus are and what they can do for you.

7:30-8:45 p.m. – Various Locations (Last session for commuter students)
  • Peer Mentor Groups
    This is a time to meet with your Peer Mentor to ask questions and learn more about your group members.

9 p.m. – Residence Halls
  • Mandatory Residence Hall Meetings
    Welcome to your home away from home! This is the time to get acquainted with your fellow residents, meet the residence life staff, and receive important information you need to know about living on campus.

Getting Involved at TLU

  • Research shows that students who get involved graduate. Here is your chance to learn more about what there is to do outside of the classroom, including social and service clubs, campus recreation, campus ministry, and Greek life. Presented by Charla Bailey, director of international education, and Ginger Taylor, director of student activities.

Straight A’s – How to Be Successful in the College Academic Environment

  • The academic environment at TLU is intensive. Lisa Cradit, director of academic support, will give you tips on how to excel in the classroom.

The Center for Servant Leadership and Campus Ministry

  • The Jon and Sandra Moline Center for Servant Leadership is the place to go to get involved in leadership, service, and spirituality in your new community. Pastor Greg Ronning will introduce you to the worship life on campus, the  programs and opportunities in campus ministry, and the many leadership and service opportunities available on campus.

Living Healthy at College

  • Representatives from campus dining and Debbie Roberts, director of campus recreation, will discuss the best way to stay healthy during your first year.
