Food Committee Minutes Monday,, October 29th

 

The meeting began promptly at 6pm.  Those in attendance were Kimberly Smith, Chef Servantes, Lana Urbanak, Leo Arguilar, Kyle Wych, Matthew Saenz, Erica Vega, Jim Wilkes, Rosie Dietz, Eric Hood, Lee Shands, Ruth Stevens, Teala Robinson, Deanna Zapfe and Thomas Snooks.

 

 

Jim Wilkes, General Manager Sodexho Campus Services, read the minutes from the last meeting.

 

Topics discussed concerning Lucky’s:

 

  1. Students were happy to see the candy and the snack items brought back.
  2. The speed of service has improved.
  3. The variety of chips has improved.
  4. The cups at Luckys has not been changed.
  5. There is enough Smoothie mix in the house now.
  6. Kyle Wych, Director of Resident Life, asked if there were signs up advertising the latest Scratch and Win contest.  Erice said they were posted.
  7. Lana asked how the new Baja station was working and what were the top selling items.  Erica Vega, Retail Mgr., said the the shredded chicken burrito, nacho’s and quesadilla’s were selling the best.
  8. The new expresso machine is really working well as far as the students are concerned.  They do not have to wait in line as long due to the speed of the new machine.

 

 

Topics discussed concerning Hein Dining Hall:

 

  1. There had been concerns over the steaks on steak night not being as good as they had in the past.  Chef informed the committee that we are now using a different steak.
  2. Ruth Stevens commented on how the staff had helped her so much since her accident.  The staff has stepped up to help her through the line with her food and other items.   Kudo’s to our Hein Staff!
  3. Matthew Saenz asked us why the chicken fried steak was served two days apart.  Chef has this item at least once a week due to the students request and also a large group had also visited that week and we typically serve chicken fried steak.
  4. Matthew Saenz also commented on the Texas Chili served in Hein was really good.
  5. Thomas Snooks told the committee the the flat bread that is offered now at the deli station is really a good option to have.
  6. The night that we baked the warm cookies and took them out to the students  in the dining room was a success.  They wanted to know when we will be doing that again.
  7. Someone had asked the Chef when we were going to have Sushi Night again.  His plan is next semester for that.

 

 

Lana Urbanak discussed the Cyber Café with the committee.  The Cyber Café is still in the planning stages.  Some students had concerns with the noise in the library if the café was added there.  The committee has gone to visit other schools such as TCU and Trinity that has a coffee bar.
