TLU Grants
Legacy Award ($1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are dependents of a TLU alumnus. (Parent must have completed at least 24 credit hours at TLU).
Congregational Aid Program (CAP) ($300 to $1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are members of a participating Lutheran congregation, or a participating congregation in denominations with which the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is in full communion (i.e., The Episcopal Church, Moravian Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church). Amount of award is determined by the level of your congregation's participation.
Lutheran Clergy Grant ($1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are dependent children of ordained pastors of the Lutheran Church (ELCA, LCMS, WELS, or other) and to the dependent children of others serving on one of the official rosters of the ELCA (AIMS, deaconesses, and diaconal ministers).
Scholastic Advancement Award ($1,000 per year) is awarded to first-generation college students (neither parent attended college) who demonstrate financial need and who earned a 2.5 high school GPA.
George Foundation Award ($1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are residents of Fort Bend County, TX who demonstrate financial need and have a minimum SAT score of 950 or ACT score of 20. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for renewal.
Alwine Classen Grant ($1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are Texas residents, demonstrate financial need and have a high school GPA of 3.0. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for renewal.
Brackenridge Award ($1,000 per year) is awarded to full time students who are residents of Bexar County, TX and demonstrate financial need. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for renewal.
TLU Alumni Recommendation Award (TARA) ($1,000 first year only) - is a non-renewable award given to first year students recommended by an alumnus. The deadline for TARA nominations os March 1, 2010. The TARA Recommendation Form can be accessed via the Alumni and Friends page on the TLU Web site.
Federal Grants
Federal Pell Grant eligibility is based on need as determined by the federal government and the funding level approved by Congress. The maximum award for 2009-2010 is $5,350.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) funds are available to students who show high financial need and are eligible for the Pell Grant. TLU receives a limited amount of these federal funds each year to award to students.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) funds are available to students who are U.S. Citizens eligible for Pell Grant and who have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study. In Texas, the Recommended and Distinguished diplomas meet this requirement. You must be enrolled full time and must maintain a CGPA of 3.0 to be eligible for renewal of this award. First year students receive $750 and second year students receive $1,300.
Please note: Unless additional legislation is passed by Congress, this program will expire on June 30, 2011 making the 2010 - 2011 academic year the last year that students can receive funding from this program. National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART) funds are available to 3rd and 4th year students who are U.S. Citizens eligible for Pell Grant and who are majoring in: Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physical Sciences or designated foreign languages. You must have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher, be enrolled full time and must have declared your major by the end of your sophomore year to be considered for this scholarship. Third year students are eligible for $4,000, which is renewable for a fourth year as long as the student remains in an eligible major, is Pell Grant eligible, and maintains a minimum CGPA of 3.0.
Please note: Unless additional legislation is passed by Congress, this program will expire on June 30, 2011 making the 2010 - 2011 academic year the last year that students can receive funding from this program. Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH) funds are available to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families. Grants are awarded up to $4,000 per year and can be used to replace the student's Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Students who receive a TEACH Grant but do not complete the required teaching service will be required to repay the grants as a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Interest will be charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement.
TLU has been approved to offer TEACH Grants effective October 30, 2008. Students who have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program and who plan to teach in Bilingual Education, Math or Science may be eligible to receive the TEACH Grant if they meet the following criteria:
- Scored in the 75th percentile or higher on the SAT or ACT or have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Are a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
- Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (ATS).
- Complete TEACH Grant counseling each academic year.

State Grants
Tuition Equalization Grant (TEG) funds are available to Texas residents who are determined to have high financial need. The maximum award for 2009-2010 is $3,808. To be eligible for renewal of this grant, you must complete at least 24 credit hours per year and must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.5.
5th Year Accounting Scholarship funds are available to students enrolled in Texas colleges and universities who have completed at least 120 hours of course work, including at least 15 semester credit hours of accounting, and who plan to take the CPA exam. The maximum award for 2009-2010 is $5,000. Students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements and be enrolled at east half time to receive this award.

Early High School Graduation Scholarship funds are available to students who graduate from a Texas public high school, having completed either the recommended or distinguished achievement high school curriculum in no more than 36 consecutive months. Eligible students must have attended high school in Texas only. To determine eligibility, the student's high school counselor must submit a certification on the student's behalf to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The maximum award is $2,000. If the student graduates with at least 15 semester credit hours of college credit, he/she may receive an additional $1,000. This award is renewable for up to six years.

Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Program (LEAP/SLEAP) funds are available to Texas residents attending a public or private university who demonstrate financial need. The maximum award is $5,000 and is determined by the student's level of financial need.
