Texas Lutheran University Scholarships

Students must be accepted to TLU in order to be considered for a scholarship and must enroll full time in order to receive and renew the award.  Scholarships at Texas Lutheran University are counted as aid received in need-based financial aid packages.  Grant and scholarship aid (federal, state and external) when combined with TLU awards may not exceed the cost of attendance for the year you are applying.  Students are limited to one Academic Distinction Scholarship (except National Merit and Janota Scholarships).  Academic Distinction, Performance and Participation Awards in combination, where applicable, may not exceed the cost of full time tuition for the year you are applying for aid.
 
Pacesetter Awards for College Excellence (PACE)
(By invitation only)
The most distinguished of our academic scholarships; students who have excelled in high school and who are admitted by Feb. 2 are invited to participate in PACE Day at TLU.  On PACE Day, you compete through interviews and essays for TLU's top scholarship award of up to $15,000.  This scholarship is renewed for up to three additional years provided you maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher.

Da capo Award in Music

The most distinguished of our academic scholarships for students who plan to major in music.  Students who have excelled in high school, who are admitted by Feb. 2 and who have indicated they plan to major in music are invited to participate in PACE Day at TLU.  On PACE Day, you compete through interviews and auditions for TLU's top scholarship award of up to $15,000.  This scholarship is renewed for up to three additional years provided you maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  Click here for more information about TLU's School of Music.
 
Locus Aduro Award in Dramatic Media

The most distinguished of our academic scholarships for students who plan to major in dramatic media.  Students who have excelled in high school, who are admitted by Feb. 2 and who have indicated they plan to major in dramatic media are invited to participate in PACE Day at TLU.  On PACE Day, you compete through interviews and auditions for TLU's top scholarship award of up to $15,000.  This scholarship is renewed for up to three additional years provided you maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  Click here for more information about TLU's Dramatic Media department.
 
National Merit Scholarship - Up to $2,000 per year.
Students who meet the requirements of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) are awarded this scholarship upon notification of final high school status.  Finalists receive $2,000, semi-finalists receive $1,500 and those chosen as Commended receive $1,000 per academic year.

Janota Scholarship - $1,000 per year
If you graduate as a valedictorian or salutatorian of your high school class, you will receive the Janota Scholarship.  This scholarship may not be combined with the National Merit Scholarship.  This scholarship is renewable for up to 3 years provided you maintain a cumulative GPA at TLU of 3.0 of above.
 
A range of academic honors scholarships are awarded based on high school performance and SAT/ACT scores.  Scholarships are renewable for up to 3 years provided you maintain a minimum cumulative GPA at TLU, as indicated.

Presidential Scholarship - Up to $10,000  (3.0 TLU CGPA required for renewal)

Academic Excellence Award (AEA) - Up to $9,000  (3.0 TLU CGPA required for renewal)

Commendation Award - Up to $7,000  (2.75 TLU CGPA required for renewal)

Heritage Award - Up to $2,000 (2.5 TLU CGPA required for renewal)
 
Transfer scholarships are awarded based on credits received that are transferable to TLU and the grade point average calculated on these credits.  These scholarships are renewable for one or two years depending on credits transferred and provided you maintain a 2.75 CGPA at TLU.  Transfer academic scholarships are only available to students admitted as transfers.  Students with dual credit hours who are classified as freshmen will not be eligible for these scholarships.  See Freshman Academic Scholarships above.

Transfer Academic Distinction - Up to $9,000 per year.
3.25 TLU CGPA required for renewal.

Transfer Academic Honor - Up to $7,000 per year.
3.0 TLU CGPA required for renewal.

Transfer Scholar Award - Up to $5,000 per year.
2.75 TLU CGPA required for renewal.

Transfer Achievement Award - Up to $3,000 per year.
2.5 TLU CGPA required for renewal.

Phi Theta Kappa Award - Up to $1,000 per year.
2.75 TLU CGPA required for renewal.  This may be awarded in addition to Transfer Academic Scholarships.

Renewal of these scholarships is based on continued full-time enrollment and the cumulative GPA earned at TLU, the number of transfer hours accepted, and the number of hours required for the degree.  For example:

Performance awards may not be combined with Academic Distinction awards but may be awarded in addition to other scholarships and are determined by the level of your participation.  When participating in more than one ensemble or performance area, you may receive up to $2,000 from the combined Performance awards.

Jones Fine Arts for Music Majors - $2,000 to $4,000 per year

Jones Fine Arts for Dramatic Media Majors - $2,000 to $4,000 per year

Jones Fine Arts Awards provide artistic and cultural recognition for outstanding musical and dramatic media performance to those students majoring in music or dramatic media who demonstrate a meaningful contribution to the life of the university through participation in performance ensembles while they are pursuing a baccalaureate degree.

Performance Awards for Non-majors - Up to $2,000 per year.
Performance awards provide artistic and cultural recognition for outstanding musical and dramatic media performance to those students in any major field of study who demonstrate a meaningful contribution to the life of the university through participation in performance ensembles while they are pursuing a baccalaureate degree.
Performance awards are given in the areas of band, choir, strings, piano, solo vocal performance, organ and dramatic media.
 

Presidential Award for Leadership and Service - Up to $1,000 per year. (By Invitation Only)
Students demonstrating outstanding leadership through a variety of campus and community service activities may be invited to apply for this scholarship.

Publications Award - $500 to $3,500 per year.

Athletic Training - Up to $2,000 per year.
